Happy Chappies is a lifestyle blog based in Johannesburg, South Africa. It’s about finding that silver lining and the fun in the daily chaos of our lives. Here, a group of contributors write about fashion, food, finances, city adventures, culture, travel, and more; from an African perspective.

May Botha

May has over 10 year's working experience and is continuously looks for new, innovative ways of conveying messages. Originally from Botswana, she grew up in Namibia and has spent the last 14 years in South Africa. She is currently a Communication and Change Manager, in the financial industry.

​

Her specialty lies in taking complex concepts and distilling them into user-friendly visuals, to improve understanding of a subject. She has an Honours Degree in BA Media Studies. With a passion for fashion and giving back to the community, May started an online brand called swank which is inspired by the notion of being yourself and wearing whatever (accessories) defines you as an individual. Her topics of interest for the blog include finance, fashion and living in the big city.

 

May lives and works in Johannesburg with her husband and son.

Alicia Rio-Anne Paladh (soon-to-be Alicia Moses)

This engaged, mother of an 8-year-old; works for the Financial Regulator in the area of empowering people through economic literacy. She is originally from Durban and lives in Pretoria. As a Content Specialist, Alicia is able to take financial knowledge to the people in all sorts of exciting ways – from roadshows, to mall visits and live performances.

​

After six years of studying part-time, she has a BA Communication Science degree which she by-the-way; Cum laude-d. Like many of us, Alicia’s had a few lemons thrown her way. She knows what it feels like to experience hurt, pain, rejection and disappointment. Instead of falling victim to the harsh realities of life, Alicia pushes to keep on moving – keep on bettering herself.

​

Her vision includes: to live a better life and make a difference to those around her, to work shorter hours, to be a great mum and wife; and to be a good friend. All of this, while having fun!

Kagiso Masilo (aka KG)

Kagiso works in the field of communication, design and all things creative. She is a mother, an amazing home cook and self-declared DIY/home-remedy beautician. She’s been in the corporate world for over nine years; with various roles to add to her repertoire.

​

Her educational background includes a diploma in Media Studies and Journalism; and she is currently studying towards a BA Communication Science degree. KG is experienced in the sphere of ‘life.’ She grew up in Rustenburg and now stays in Johannesburg.

​

Not too long ago, KG was faced with a life-threatening health scare. Thanks to her fighting spirit and bubbly personality, she was able to overcome it and prove that dynamite indeed; comes in small packages.

​

Kagiso is passionate about leading a healthy lifestyle – eating fresh, organic foodstuffs; using natural products and cooking with quality ingredients. She strives to do good in her immediate environment and contributing towards caring for the underprivileged. This lady is also a make-up fundi.
